Workout challenge! Workout challenge! was all I read and heard everywhere. I don’t know if it was a sign that this time I was going to go down from a size 18 to a size 12. I was fully charged and prepared because I mean, I saw so many before and after pictures of people even bigger than I was. This time, I made up my mind to be fit and healthy looking. Day 1 of the challenge, I went out of my house and jogged around the streets of Lagos. I can tell you that I jogged for about an hour and a half. Of course, I took little breaks. Even so many ignorant people were laughing at me and calling me names but I didn’t care. I was ready to burn that fat. When I got back home, I did some more exercise. From side planks to second position plies to cardio intervals to triceps extension to step ups to even push ups. I managed to do five push ups. I no try for beginner? Anyway that was that for the day. I didn’t even eat my usual. I just ate small vegetable con join am with carrots. Oyinbo say make we dey eat vegetables so I made sure I was eating things that would prevent my workout from being a waste.
Day 2 now, I did the same thing even though my body dey pain me eh. I made sure that it wasn’t going to stop me so I took some pain relief and went on my journey. I think I even did more than I did the first day. I was really feeling myself. I already felt like I burnt a ton of fat. Now this continued for about 25 days and I couldn’t believe myself. I had lost a lot of weight. If I tell you my size then, many of you go say na lie but I was already a size 14. Are you done with your “hmmmmm”, so that I can continue my story? Okay, so I was a size 14, not a size smaller oo. I was a size 14 from a size 18 on day 25. Even Vero, my roommate couldn’t believe it. Why didn’t I do this since? I kept asking myself.
Finally, it was day 40 and I was already a size 12. Dem bad belle people are already rolling their eyes and doubting me but yeah I was a size 12. Everybody around me couldn’t believe it. From my neighbours to my friends. This was a tug of war between me and not losing weight and I won finally. Some taught I went to see a native doctor or I did surgery or something. Me wey no get money. People just couldn’t believe it. I was also surprised myself, so I wouldn’t blame them. People started coming to meet me for tips and advice and my secret to losing that much weight. I even became a fitness instructor. I was checking my weight one morning when Vero yelled my name. “Sarah! Sarah! Sarah!” she called out. Which kine madness be this one na. She kept calling my name until everything became blurry and suddenly it was bright again. This time, I was on my bed with Vero standing beside me and tapping me. I looked at myself and looked around with the shock of life.
It was a dream! All the fat was never gone. All my push ups, all my jogging, all my workout was all a dream. I sat up and looked at Vero who was looking at me in confusion. I didn’t even know when tears rolled down.
Vero held me and asked why I was crying and I shook my head and said; “Vero, why you wake me?”
“Ahn ahn! You sure say you okay. No be you say make I wake you up when I don finish d cooking wey I dey do for kitchen. You even say make I make 4 cups of eba for you. D tin dey for table sha.”
I shook my head and told her I wasn’t hungry. Before she left, she said;
“When hunger dey catch you, You know where to find food.”
Ahh friends like Vero, she no even pity me. She was even adding to my weight. I slowly laid down on my bed and thought about my dream as I wept bitterly.
Let’s try to be healthy people. Eat right, drink right and stay fit for good health. 🙂
